How to Make the Most Out of Your E-liquid Flavours

Whether you’re about to start buying e-liquids or you’re a seasoned vaping veteran, we all know that vaping should be a pleasure and something to look forward to throughout the day. However, every now and then, you may notice that you can’t quite get the right kick from your favourite e-liquid.

Luckily, it's very rare that it’s your e-liquid’s fault, and there may be a number of easy remedies for a sub-par flavour hit. No matter what your experience level, it’s sometimes easy to miss something and end up with a bad (or just average) taste in your mouth.

Avoid overexposure aka “vaper’s tongue” or “vaper’s fatigue”

One of the most common causes why you may not be getting the flavour you crave is because you've simply vaped too much (we know, but there is such a thing) in a short space of time. This can cause something known as “vaper’s tongue” or “vaper’s fatigue” which is overexposure of the taste and smell senses.

Thankfully, this is only temporary and there are some handy tricks to either cure it or delay it completely. First of all, remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Drinking water is not only good health advice in general, but also makes sure that you produce enough saliva. Saliva is required in the mouth to ensure we can taste properly - not enough results in a dulled perception of taste.

If you plan on doing a lot of vaping, it may also be worth avoiding too much coffee or tea. These types of drinks can be dehydrating and alter our ability to taste properly.

Another step is to simply space out your vaping a little. While it can certainly be tempting to vape all day, this can cause taste fatigue. If you notice your vape flavours fading, it might be a good idea to take a break before your next vape. If you find yourself struggling to get the right amount of nicotine, we recommend upping the level of nicotine in your e-liquid so you don’t have to vape so frequently to get the same hit.

Check you have the correct VG/PG ratio

Getting the right ratio of VG or PG in your vape liquids is key for getting the best flavour experience.

Bottle of VG and PG

VG (vegetable glycerin) is what can give you smooth hits and large, dense clouds, perfect for cloud chasers. However, VG may not be ideal if you’re looking for big vape flavours, and that's where using a higher amount of PG can come in.

PG (propylene glycol) is thinner in consistency and perhaps more importantly, is flavourless. PG is better at carrying flavours as it's less likely to mask bold flavours unlike VG which has a slight sweet taste of its own. It's recommended to start with a 50:50 VG/PG ratio to ensure maximum vape flavour.

As a general rule of thumb the main thing you need to remember is:

Higher PG (e.g., 60PG/40VG) – Carries flavour more efficiently and provides a sharper throat hit.

Higher VG (e.g., 70VG/30PG) – Produces denser vapour and a smoother inhale, but can slightly mute delicate flavour notes.

For nicotine salts and pod kits, a balanced 50:50 ratio is often the sweet spot. For sub-ohm vaping, higher VG blends usually deliver the best cloud and flavour combination.

Change flavour regularly

We’ve all been guilty of over indulging ourselves with a favourite treat, and things are no different with vaping. If your favourite e-liquid is a sweet, fruity vape juice and you’ve been enjoying its taste for a while, it may be that you desensitise yourself to the taste!

Thankfully, this shouldn't be permanent and simply switching to a new vape flavour should do the trick. Otherwise, if you love a certain flavour that much, then it may be worth increasing your vaping liquids’s PG level to get a clearer and more distinctive flavour.

How to store your e-liquid

Like many other products that rely on taste, e-liquids can be affected by how they are stored. E-liquids are sensitive to light and heat: both of these factors can change the chemistry of the vape juice and degrade that all important flavour.

Try and keep your stash of e-liquids in a cool, dark place to ensure that they last as long as they can. Vape juices unfortunately do have an expiration date, but they should last a good long while if they are stored with extra care.

Vape device maintenance

These are some of the simplest steps you can take to ensure your vape flavours stay perfect. Experienced vapers will know that regular vaping can cause deposits of gunk to build and contaminate the flavour of your e-liquid, so make sure to change the coils of your device regularly and give that tank a good wash.

To wash your vape tank, simply rinse it under warm water and either leave it to air dry or pat it with some kitchen towel. Cleaning the tank seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget to clean parts of your vape device - especially when you’re excited to fill it up with fresh new e-liquid flavours!

Time for a vape device upgrade?

Those who have a disposable vape device and are struggling to get a good flavour may want to consider replacing or even upgrading their device. Purchasing a higher power device is a sure fire way to get massive flavour hits.

Different Types of Vape Device

For those with a vaping device that they can upgrade, the options get really exciting! New glass tanks, upgrading from single to double coils, or a new atomiser are all great ways to chase that extra flavoursome vape.

Fine-Tuning Your Vape for Maximum Flavour

If you’ve already covered the basics of preventing flavour fatigue and maintaining your device, you can take your e-liquid enjoyment even further by making small adjustments to your hardware and vaping habits. These tweaks don’t require complicated rebuilds — just a bit of knowledge about coils, wattage, airflow, and how different e-liquids behave in different setups.

Choose the Right Coil for the Job

Your coil plays a huge role in how your vape flavours are delivered. Every coil has an ohm rating — a measurement of its electrical resistance — which determines how much power it needs and how it produces vapour.

Above 1.0Ω (Mouth-to-Lung) – Ideal for higher-PG vape juices and nicotine salts, these coils give you a tighter draw and a strong throat hit. This style is often preferred by newer vapers or those coming from cigarettes, as it mimics the feel of smoking.

Below 1.0Ω (Sub-Ohm) – Designed for high-VG e-liquids and direct-to-lung vaping, these coils produce warmer vapour, bigger clouds, and often a more intense flavour experience. They work best with lower nicotine strengths to avoid a harsh hit.

If your device offers multiple coil options, experiment with different resistances and see which one brings out the most from your favourite vape juice flavours.

Many vape kits feature adjustable wattage. E-liquids have their own “sweet spot” where flavour peaks before becoming too warm or tasting burnt. If your coil’s recommended range is 40–60W, start in the middle and work your way up in small increments. You’ll often find just a few watts’ difference can dramatically change how your e-liquid tastes.

Experiment with Different Vape Kits

If you’re not getting the flavour you want from your current setup, it might be time to try something new.

Pod Kits – Great for nicotine salts and everyday use; these are portable and simple with prefilled pod kits being the ideal alternative if you've previously used disposable vapes. The PIXL 8000 is both the latest and one of the most popular in this category.

Sub-Ohm Kits – Better for high-VG liquids and cloud chasing; sub ohm kits such as the Aspire Gotek X3 offer adjustable settings for custom flavour.

Rebuildable Dripping Atomisers (RDAs) – For those who want total control and maximum flavour intensity.

Flavour Boosting Without New E-liquid

If you’re running low on your favourite juice or want to make the most of what you have, reduce airflow slightly to concentrate vapour, lower wattage to extend coil life and keep flavours bright, and switch to a narrower drip tip to funnel vapour directly to your palate.

Just be careful not to overheat your liquid; higher wattages can intensify flavour, pushing your coil too far can burn the flavour concentrates in your juice. This results in an unpleasant “burnt sugar” taste that can linger even after changing e-liquid. Stay within the recommended range and avoid chain vaping at high power.

Don’t settle for an average vape flavour

So as you can see, there are plenty of common (but easily fixed) causes of a weird taste from your vape juice. The key takeaways are simply these: don’t over use the same vape flavour, make sure you properly maintain your device, and always make sure you rotate e-liquids to keep your vaping experience exciting.
